I am hoping that by sharing some of the real life playroom resets that I have completed will help you to see some of my rules and hacks in practice.
In this room there was no system and it lacked storgae - so we DECLUTTERED but also added the same basket which contained the heaviest toys on the bottom shelf to allow kids to access easily. The higher up baskets contained items for supervised play. IN terms of the books by placing in height order and categorised it helps to reduce the visual clutter.
For this client she had some storage but it wasn't working for her - so we replaced the book shelf in the nook with the 4 box Kallax (IKEA) and added a long Kallax (IKEA) also. The issue here was toys were too big to fit on the shelves and there was lots of very small toys. So we also added a Trofast (IKEA) so cater for smaller bits. As per the rule BIG TOYS = BIG STORAGE, SMALL TOYS = SMALL STORAGE. Everything is very accessible for small kiddies and labels both words and pictures help to maintain the system.
Labelling to help kids to identify what goes where - whilst they may not help with tidy up ALL of the time it is important to try encourage help with 'tidy up time' to help create good habits early on.
For this project the big basket storage was not working - the kids had no idea what was inside and when bigger items got piled on top it was almost impossible. The kids weren't playing in this room. So we used this big Kallax system (IKEA) and as many clear boxes and storage where it made sense so that they can now see what they have. It was a huge transformation.
I'll finish with a quick hack - to reduce the space that boxes take up add them to these mesh bags and label the bag!! A huge space saver as a lot of times the boxes are far too big for the actual contents!! Click the image for a link (AF).
Hope you found this post helpful. Let me know if there are other spaces you would like for me to cover in future posts.
